Avience was founded on a day after school in January 10th 2014 by Jay (Avient) and Caleb (1Calorie, SuperMC64), the day after the 1.8 snapshot allowed new blocks into Minecraft world generation. The server was originally hosted via a provider called multiplay that Jay's parents paid for. Over the years Avience was run on Pebblehost, and then eventually moved to being home hosted by Jay. Where the server computer currently is today. Next to his desk.
Jay initially invited his friends to the server. A couple of them include Colver, SpectralCraft, Talavari (Destarian), Louise2002, and KaptainKanine. Which were the original players on the server. This constituted the initial group of players from the first year. They mainly stayed in the Avience town and built bases inside the houses that stand today. The first base on the server is located near 0,0. The first structure was the bunker underneath it.
Between year 1 and 2 activity died and the server was shut down and the "Avience" world was moved to a singleplayer world for about 5 months. That is where a lot of the old YouTube videos were recorded in. Jay then got into streaming on his AvientGamer (Avient now) YouTube channel on Mineplex. He then put the world back on a server and had another public SMP server he advertised this way as well. Jay also started a server hosting business during this time and was able to run the server through that. Some new players were invited via the streams and became the second wave of players on the server. This second cohort included Nicholus, Lucuz, 2018K (Twok), iDefective, TheUnshameless, and some of Jay's brother Dan.
Year 3 mainly consisted of new player additions from the streaming. Some notible names were people like Obtuse, ZolloShelter, and some friends of the year priors players.
During 2017 Jay stopped streaming on his gaming channel and founded his current YouTube channel Jays Tech Vault. Given this was a technology channel and he was no longer streaming Minecraft new players dwindled.
This was one of the years where the server was on and off again a lot. Avience was moved to run on a laptop and taken off being hosted on Pebblehost due to a rollback that occurred around this time losing around 6 months of progress.
This is the year the pandemic hit. With the introduction of Jay streaming the public server and Avience the player count jumped up to a level that hadn't been seen before. Before this point 1-3 people would be online at a time. After which the server frequently sees 7-10. This also starts the age of the server moving from a small SMP to an established SMP with a lot of infrastructure.
